There is a lot of shouting going on today, God.
We welcome you in to this holy place and into this holy moment with shouts of,
“Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord, Hossanna!”
But before this day is out we will shout,
“Crucify him!”
We confess that this is not just an ancient story, but still our way of being.
In the same breath we shout, “Hosanna!” and “Crucify!”
In our churches where the ritual is familiar and the liturgy comforting,
we cry, “Hosanna!”
In the byways where we experience difference and fear one another,
we cry, “Crucify him!”
In houses of charity where giving is easy,
we cry, “Crucify him!”
In the marketplace where winning is the only way,
we cry, “Crucify him!”
When we believe you have called us to conquer,
we cry, “Crucify him!”
When we realize you have come to surrender,
we cry, “Crucify him!”
Even so, our cries to crucify have only deepened the demonstration of your love.
May our willingness to follow in that way be our final, “Hosanna!”
Friends, hear the good news. Christ has come not for condemnation, but for the healing of the world.
Thanks be to God!

*Morning Prayer
*Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Blessed Be the Tie that Binds Our Hearts
Though we are set apart
Our times of gath’ring lost
Our voices still we raise to God
Who makes community
Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love
The fellowship of kindred minds
